Finger fractures are common from falls, sports, and workplace injuries. Even stable fractures can leave lasting stiffness if swelling and fear of movement are not managed.
Healing vs stiffness
Bone needs stability to unite. Neighbouring joints need motion to stay healthy. Therapy coordinates both goals with your orthopaedic or plastic surgery team.
Typical therapy tools
- Custom or prefabricated orthoses / buddy straps
- Edema wrapping and elevation
- Active and active-assisted range of motion when cleared
- Progressive strengthening after clinical union
- Scar care after open reduction
Return to grip activities
Heavy lifting, contact sport, and vibrating tools are usually delayed until imaging and clinical exam confirm adequate healing. Returning too early risks displacement or re-fracture.
Educational information only. It does not replace assessment by a qualified clinician. Seek urgent care for severe pain, infection signs, sudden loss of sensation, or circulation changes.
